Aussie of the Term. Learning and Participating Safely and Respectfully
‘Aussie of the Term' is an awards program that recognises personal endeavour, achievement and contribution to the school community of Londonderry Public School. The award is highly regarded by our school community and every term each class teacher selects one student to receive this award at a special school assembly. During the presentation ceremony the principal Ms Burke speaks to the whole school about the reasons each teacher has selected a particular student. A special certificate and lapel pin is given to each ‘Aussie of the Term' award winner. A photo is displayed in the office foyer for the following term.
The ‘Aussie of the Term' is an awards program with a difference as it recognises the values we all share at Londonderry Public School and as Australians - a sense of fair play, generosity of spirit, commitment to the community, participation and a genuine concern for the environment. The award recognises students for their endeavours with school work, school spirit and citizenship which can both be difficult to acknowledge through traditional academic and sporting excellence awards. It highlights to students what it means to be Australian and provides a relevant prompt for teacher-led discussions about the importance of good citizenship.
